How Do You Heal A Broken Heart?

How Do You Heal a Broken Heart? Well, I think the answer to this is different for everyone. For me it took time, but it didn’t just happen on its own account. I had to help my heart along a little bit. One week before college graduation, my boyfriend of four years dumped me. I met Joel in one of my first ever classes, we were inseparable. I thought one day we would get married.

I had no idea Joel was going to dump me. When it happened, I was blown away. While everyone else was celebrating the end of college, I stayed in my room feeling miserable. I found myself asking, how do you heal a broken  heart? My pain felt so deep that it seemed impossible. I thought, maybe you can die from a broken heart.

I knew that sitting at home would not teach me the answer to how do you heal a broken heart. I bought some ebooks about love and relationships. They were quite affordable, priced between $15 and $50. The first thing I learnt was that healing takes time. I could not expect to go out clubbing the first weekend and feel myself again. My heart needed time to grieve and feel sad.

Instead I concentrated on living my life normally again. I started going to classes and studying for final exams. I even put together a resume and started my job search. How do you heal a broken heart? Acting normal didn’t feel right. However, I knew that staying in my dorm all day was not going to do me any good either. So I tried my best.

My last week of college had me feeling like a zombie. But I made it through, and after a bit of time I could stand back and accept the end of my relationship. How Do You heal a broken heart? The first step is acceptance. I was grateful for my relationship, even though it was over. There were bad times and also good times. Both Joel and I were able to learn something from it.

Many of the ebooks told me to find support in family and friends. I returned home from college and was glad of the support offered by my mother and sister. I asked them both the question: How do you heal a broken heart? But neither of them knew the answer. Instead, we spent some quality time together. We got our hair done, got manicures and went out for lunch a lot. I started laughing again. I began to feel like myself.

How do you heal a broken heart? The answer I was looking for was in myself. I found that exercising my creativity really helped me to feel better. In high school I had been involved in some art projects, but I gave it up in college. I started painting again and even enrolled in a photography class. My mind was off the break up and I felt that my thoughts were clearer.

Spending time with my family, learning and expressing my creativity helped me to get over Joel. I thinking reconnecting with myself was the key here. Sometime friends now ask me, How do you heal a broken heart? Well, I tell them that the answer is inside their own heart. Take care of yourself, allow yourself to feel good about who you are. The rest will come.
