Healing a Broken Heart

Most people will tell you that healing a broken heart only happens with time. While I do believe that time takes care of the wound, I also think there are some things that you can do to help it along the way. I have learnt this from first hand experience.

Jonathon left me a week before my birthday. I was devastated, I thought that we would one day get married and have children together. It was a shock when he left me. I was so miserable, I didn’t even think then that healing a broken heart was possible. I did heal over time, now I want to share with you the best things to do to help yourself get over the pain of heartbreak.

When Jonathon left I felt hurt and angry. You might feel this way too. While it’s important to give yourself time to grieve, also keep the bigger picture in mind. Healing a broken heart requires you to accept what has happened. You don’t have to like it, or condone it. You just need to acknowledge it occurred. This will help you to move on.

When you are healing a broken heart taking care of yourself is important. A few weeks after the break up I took a vacation filled with long days on the beach and visits to a day spa. It was really relaxing and I felt great when I got home. My self esteem was crushed, so really looking after myself started building it back up.

I used to feel horrible all the time. I felt that healing a broken heart would not happen to me. I stayed up all night thinking about it. After a while I realized that I would have to distract myself, If I was caught up in how sad I felt all the time I was never going to get any better. I started making an effort to see friends more often. I read books, sometimes I even went to the movies on my own. All of these things helped.

Part of healing a broken heart is finding the strength and courage to move on. This is much easier said than it is done. Although I acted like someone who was not heartbroken, on the inside I definitely was a sad and broken person. I knew I needed some help, I found some information about relationships online. I bought some ebooks, all priced between $15 and $50. These really helped as I could see how my relationship had long shown cracks. Things were not as perfect as I had believed.

Healing a Broken Heart will not happen on its own, you need to help it along. My best advice is to educate yourself about love and relationships so you can learn from your mistakes. Look after yourself and your appearance, remember that you are worth love and happiness, just because one of your relationships ended doesn’t mean the next will. A good method for healing a broken heart is just to stay happy as you can, keep active and know that things will get better in time.
